Pindo Palm Tree |
Butia capitata ‘Pindo’ |
The Pindo Palm Tree is a cold-hearty palm tree that has beautiful 'feathery' leaves. It normally grows 20-30 feet tall with a trunk of 15-20 feet. The trunk diameter is usually 1 to 1-1/2 feet in diameter. It is a hardy Palm Tree that will tolerate difficult growing conditions as long as it is regularly watered and fertilized. Pindo Palms are cold hardy to about 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Large, older trees have reportedly survived temperatures as low as zero.

Pindo Palms grown in direct sunlight tend to develop a more compact shape. The growth rate of a healthy Pindo Palm is approximately 1 foot per year. The leaves of the Pindo Palm are about 3 feet long. |
Since they are insect and disease problem free, and since they will grow in most soils, Pindo Palms are very popular in the Southern U.S. |
Pindo Palm Trees are reported to have been brought to the United States from Argentina more than 100 years ago.
